What kind of apparel do we sell?
We have a large range of quality gear that we use and recommend…
Helmets
It’s the law in Queensland to wear a helmet when you ride a bike but more importantly, a good quality helmet will protect your head in the event of an accident. Helmets have been proven to save lives. They can also make you more aerodynamic and stylish so ensure you choose a quality helmet to suit your biking requirements.
Clothing
Cotton is the enemy when you get serious about riding. All MAMIL jokes aside, once you start wearing cycling jerseys and shorts, you won’t go back. They don’t get in the way, keep you warm in the cold and cool in warm weather, protect you from the sun, beads off water, wicks away sweat, holds your valuables, and provides essential padding in sensitive areas. You can even colour co-ordinate with your bike and helmet to really look the part!
Gloves
Cycling gloves give you more grip (especially in the humid weather of FNQ), make your hands a little more comfortable, give you a way to wipe the sweat out of your eyes, and can even help prevent nerve damage and pain! In the event of an accident, they can also prevent nasty road rash on your hands. Do yourself a favour and get a set of gloves to ride with.
Shoes
Cycling shoes come in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit all different types of riding. Road bike shoes, mountain bike shoes, triathlon shoes, cleats, and more. The right pair of cycling shoes can give you a smoother ride, a more aerodynamic position, avoid your foot slipping off the pedal, give you increased power transfer from the foot to the pedal, and prevent foot fatigue and injury. Come and chat to our friendly team to discuss what shoes might work best for you.
Frequently asked Questions about Cycling Apparel
Your helmet should feel comfortable while fitting snugly on your head. It should sit squarely on your head with the rim of the helmet just above your eyebrows. Your straps should be adjusted to fit under your chin without being twisted and without any slack. You shouldn’t be able to move the helmet back more than an inch to expose your forehead. If you are still not confident in choosing a helmet, come and chat with our team who will happily help you find the perfect helmet.
There are two main reasons to replace your helmet…
- If your helmet has been involved in an accident and has taken an impact
- If it’s no longer fitting correctly
- More than 5 years old
If you can’t make a fist with your gloves on, they are too tight. If you feel like the gloves are bunching anywhere, they may be too loose.
Yes. With sweat and natural oils in your skin being soaked up by your gloves when you ride, that can damage the fabric if not washed regularly. They can also start to smell pretty bad! All you have to do is throw them in with a cold wash (with any Velcro straps closed) and some mild detergent along with your regular clothes.
If your cycling jersey is loose, it may cause chafe whilst riding. You also don’t want it so tight that it cuts into you and feels uncomfortable. Being able to move comfortably is important while being a snug fit is ideal.
A cold wash on a gentle cycle with a lower spin rate is the perfect way to wash your cycling clothing. Hang them up out of the sun to dry as soon as they are finished washing. Do not put them in the dryer as this may damage the fibres and reduce the life of your cycling clothing.
